Jung Kyung-ho meets his Japanese fans

Actor Jung Kyung-ho held his first-ever fanmeeting last weekend in Seoul, and followed that a week later with a fanmeeting in Tokyo. The event, held with an audience of 500, was part of promotional activities for his drama series Ja Myung Go that spanned two days, August 7 and 8.

The fanmeeting was held on the latter day at Tokyo’s IMA Hall and included a paht-bing-soo making session (bing-soo is a shaved ice dessert, and the paht version uses sweet red beans), which Jung shared with attendees. As Jung turns 27 on August 30, he also received birthday congratulations.

In typical fanmeeting fashion, Jung performed a song; he sang a selection from his 2004 drama I’m Sorry, I Love You called “소중한 사람” (My Precious Person).

Jung said to the attendees, “I was really excited and nervous at the thought of meeting my Japanese fans for the first time, but everyone greeted me so warmly that I had a good time. I’m sad that it was only for a short while, but I want to greet you again in another good project. I sincerely thank everyone who came.”

The sageuk series Ja Myung Go was a pretty big disappointment (from a business standpoint) when it aired on Korean television, as its ratings were low enough for SBS to pull the plug on the drama, cutting it from the intended 50 episodes down to 39. The budget was large and the hype high, so the underperformance of the show was a particular blow for the station. Furthermore, there were murmurings of internal discord about the direction the show was taking, with some actors confused about their roles. But perhaps it’ll fare better as an export; the Japanese broadcast kicks off in October.

Son Ye-jin vacations in the Netherlands

Son Ye-jin recently traveled to the Netherlands for a photo shoot/working vacation, and the following images, which were uploaded to her official website on the 9th, were taken during her trip. They are mostly casual shots taken as she toured around, although one was taken while Sohn was working on her shoot (it’s the one where she’s made up and holding the camera).

We’ll be able to see the results of the official shoot soon enough; they were taken for the September issue of fashion magazine Singles. The vibe of the set was reportedly relaxed and casual, as everyone on the staff has been working with Sohn for the past ten years. Apparently there were so many fun photos to choose from — Sohn culled the selections herself — that it took her several days to decide which ones to release. Not to be greedy, but I don’t think anyone would mind seeing more, yeah?

Sohn Ye-jin has been resting up since her last drama, romantic comedy series Personal Taste, wrapped in the spring. She’s currently looking for a new project, and since her last was a television show, her management hinted the next would likely be a movie.

Eugene’s image transformation in High Cut

Eugene may be known for her wholesome prettiness, but she’s gone decidedly sexier for her latest photo spread, which features her wearing mostly lingerie. Eugene said of the shoot, “In my current drama Baker King Kim Tak-gu, I’ve taken on a new type of role as a villain. To match that, I wanted to take this opportunity to shed my previous image.”

In the drama, she plays Yoo-kyung, who is a character described as a femme fatale, which is a marked departure from the youthful innocence she is more known for. Back in her days as an idol star in girl pop group SES, she was called Korea’s fairy for her bright, cute image, which was reinforced by her roles in dramas like I Really, Really Like You; Three Dads, One Mom; and Creating Destiny.

These images are in August’s issue of High Cut magazine.

Meanwhile, Baker King Kim Tak-gu is ruling the ratings on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and just last week finally broke the 40% mark with Episode 17.

BoA on her way to Music Bank

A photo of BoA, who recently made her comeback to the K-pop music industry, has grabbed the attention of fans and netizens.

The photo was revealed through Daum’s TeleZone board, and it shows BoA on her way to Music Bank, for her comeback performance. ?And unlike the image we’ve seen during her comeback performances, BoA is a lot more natural with just a black tee, sunglasses, bracelet and a drink.

Fans have been saying, “Her image is very different than on stage, but it’s also beautiful,” “It seems like her face is small because the sunglasses are covering half her face” and “She’s only wearing a black tee.. But her pose is still like a real goddess.”

Who thinks she looks better without all the makeup and glam?

Leeteuk and Eunhyuk choose Zinger as their ideal type?

On a recent epsiode of MBC’s Bouquet, the members of Super Junior; Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Kyuhyun and Leeteuk were the male guests.

Throughout the show, the boys were hilarious, as Kyuhyun put on a funny “shut off” performance of miss A’s Bad Girl Good Girl, while Eunhyuk performed Justin Bieber’s Baby. ?Following the two boys’ performances, Sungmin showcased his hilarious facial expressions.

Later on in the show, the boys of Super Junior began choosing their ideal type of girls from the female cast, by giving them a bouquet.

First off, Kyuhyun picked Kim Ji Hyun from Roo’ra while singing a song called “Please.” ?Following Kyuhyun was Sungmin, who picked Girl’s Day’s Min Ah, who said her favorite Super Junior member is Heechul.

Next was Eunhyuk who picked Secret’s Zinger, though she responded by saying that her favorite Super Junior member is Leeteuk. Finally, the last member, Leeteuk, also chose Zinger while saying that he wants to take her away from Eunhyuk.

When Leeteuk and Eunhyuk were asked why they’re better than the other, Leeteuk replied, “I talk better“, while Eunhyuk fired back, “I am younger.”

Then it was finally Zinger’s turn to choose between the two boys and at the end, she chose Eunhyuk. ?Leeteuk responded by giving away the bouquet he gave her to Secret’s Hyosung.

The four boys also performed Michael Jackson’s Beat It.

Fans upset over close-ups of Kara’s butts

There is currently a hot issue brewing amongst netizens and fans of Kara, because of a Japanese broadcast.

On the August 6th episode of channel Asahi’s morning show, called Super Morning, they interviewed the girls of Kara who are currently making their entry into the Japanese market.

A reporter from the show described Kara as a popular Korean idol group who’s butt dance moves were very popular, while also saying that the girls received a lot of attention in the past due to famous Japanese comedian Gekidan Hitori who is a fan of Kara. ?The reporter also revealed that Kara’s debut Japanese single album, Mister, would be released on the 11th.

The reporter also?talked about Kara’s success in Japan so far, such as when their tickets for a showcase fanmeeting soldout in five minutes.

What the Kara fans were interested in though, was not the interview itself but the way they shot the show. ?When the girls were showcasing their butt dance during the interview, camera zoomed in and slow motion effects of the girls’ butts were included.

Furthermore, there was a part during their interview when the camera was focused on the girls’ body, without their heads.

Fans stated opinions such as, “I know Korea and Japan have a different atmosphere in the way they broadcast, but it’s sad to see them focusing on foreign female artist members’ bodies with their camera,” “It’s a broadcast that’s hard to see in Korea. Japanese broadcasts have no manners” and “After the broadcast, I was worried that the Japanese people who saw the girls will be known as a sexy girl group rather than a group known for their skills.”

Some netizens on the other hand, had different opinions such as, “When this is done in Korea, it’s ok but when it’s done in Japan, it’s wrong?“ and “There wasn’t anything wrong about this.”

What’s your take?

Taeyang and G-Dragon join the Twitterverse

With many Korean celebrities joining the Twitterverse, it’s definitely making it easier to keep up with their personal lives.

It’s no surprise to hear that Big Bang’s Taeyang and G-Dragon have joined this phenomenon. ?What is surprising though, is that they took so long to open their accounts.

Taeyang teased his fans by uploading two photos from his next music video. ?YG’s trainer himself, confirmed that this is in fact, Taeyang’s Twitter.

As for G-Dragon, we’re not 100% sure if it’s his Twitter because his username isn’t similar to his real or stage name, and he doesn’t even have a picture of himself. ?But the picture of Gaho and Boss definitely says something, as well as the people who are following this account.

It’s clear that neither of them are hooked on Twitter just yet, but I’m sure they will start to tweet more very soon!

Song Seung-heon’s Ghost remake

Another one of Song Seung-heon‘s upcoming projects is the movie Ghost (literally Love and Soul), the remake of the 1990 Hollywood movie that co-stars Japanese actress Matsushima Nanako. On August 3, the film held its production press conference at Tokyo’s Grand Hyatt Hotel, and above is a still from the film.

This project is a three-way co-production, as it is backed by Korean, American, and Japanese producers. At the press conference, Song declared that it will be “on a different level from previous Korean-Japanese melodrama co-productions.” Co-star Matsushima said, “We did our best not to go against the most memorable scenes from the first movie. We’ll be able to move audiences in a different way than the original.”

Directing the film is Otani Taro, who directed hit Japanese drama series Gokusen. Korean entertainment company CJ Entertainment is a major investor, as are Paramount Pictures Japan and Shochiku Company.

This’ll be Song’s second high-profile remake this year, the other one being Invincible. That film will open first, in September, and then Ghost will release in November.
