My Princess is on for January premiere

Finally, some movement on My Princess. The upcoming romantic-comedy series has already cast its lead stars in Song Seung-heon (East of Eden) and Kim Tae-hee (IRIS), but we haven’t heard about this in months. Now it has a tentative airdate and a broadcaster: My Princess will aim for a January 2011 premiere on MBC.

I’d been wondering if My Princess was still on, because its writer Kim Eun-sook (City Hall, On Air) had announced yet another new series to air later this year, Jang Hyuk and Ha Ji-won’s anticipated Secret Garden. Looks like writer Kim will still be doing both dramas, one after the other.

The story of My Princess features Song as a diplomat and the sole heir to Korea’s top chaebol corporation. Kim Tae-hee’s character is described as a sly, lively, and thrifty woman — an interesting combination — who is a late student (as in, older than the norm) at a women’s university. One day, she becomes a princess. There are no details describing how this happens, but I’m anticipating some sort of high-concept meet-cute.

Directing will be PD Kim Sang-ho of Fantasy Couple, Story of Hyang Dan, and Hon. I’m conflicted, because I am looking forward to some aspects of this project but greatly discouraged by others. Example: I like all of director Kim’s abovementioned series, and he’s gotten better with each one (in fact, I think the directing on Fantasy Couple was weak, but he changed my mind with the eerie and suspenseful Hon). Casting Song Seung-heon and Kim Tae-hee could be great for laughs — either intentional, since this is a rom-com, or unintentional, because these two leads are famous for their mediocre acting. Either way I’m interested.

But the writer? Haaate. I don’t think she’s a horrible writer; it’s a case of her style just not working for me. I’m willing to concede that City Hall might possibly be a good drama, even if I couldn’t get into it. But I hated On Air. Was turned off by the WTF ending of Lovers in Paris. HATED Lovers. Hate her super-slick dialogue that uses so very many words to say so very little.

The drama is still casting and will begin filming in October.

SNSD’s arrival in Japan

SNSD / Girls’ Generation debut Japanese single, Genie, is scheduled to be released on September 8th. Before that happens, the girls are holding promotional campaigns and are scheduled to hold 3 showcases in one day on August 25th at the Tokyo Ariake Coliseum. Earlier today, the girls made their arrival to Japan through the Haneda Airport. Reportedly, around 200 fans patiently waited for the girls.

Personal fan account courtesy of sayapime @ ameblo blog:

“Received news that SNSD was arriving at the Haneda airport around 2PM, so decided to get there a little early around 11AM. While waiting for SNSD (soshi), a group called BIGBANG also came out of the airport. Since everyone was waiting for SNSD no one was really screaming for BIGBANG. After BIGBANG, some Korean group named SMASH came out but unfortunately no one knew who they were… but I have to say that there were some good looking guys in the group.

Finally, SNSD came out of the gate and everyone went crazy. The guards told everyone that they will meet & greet everyone and told people to go outside but I got to stay inside. I got to see them up close and personal and they’re so pretty! They have small faces, super nice legs and are so cute. I’m so glad I got to see them.”

Check Out Big Bang’s Somebody to Luv

The boys of Big Bang are scheduled to release their newest Japanese EP titled Beautiful Hangover very soon. The EP contains two tracks, the first is Beautiful Hangover, which most of you already heard and the second track is Somebody to Luv. Last week, a short preview for Somebody to Luv was used to tease fans and now the full track has been released.

T.O.P. and G-Dragon actually have parts where they speak in Japanese in this track, it’s not strictly English for them. The track is very catchy and I actually prefer it over Beautiful Hangover

Jang Geun-seok close to picking new drama

If initial reports are confirmed, Jang Geun-seok — a hot commodity these days — may soon be back on television in his next project. It’s an adaptation of Mary Stayed Out All Night [매리는 외박중], a manhwa that comes from the creator of Full House‘s original manhwa (it’s a working title for the drama, which will air on KBS).

Jang had planned for his next role to be the movie adaptation of You’re My Pet, but due to production delays on that project, he may well be back in a drama first. Note: This article talks about the casting as a done deal, but others are saying Jang is “a strong possibility.” I’d say take it all with a grain of salt.

Jang’s management was initially reported to say, “He is planning to return with the drama Mary Stayed Out All Night in November. The character and script haven’t been decided in concrete detail yet, so he is preparing slowly, and will try hard to show a different appeal in this role.” A subsequent article backtracked and said, “He is looking favorably at the role.”

Mary Stayed Out All Night deals with a woman (the titular Mary) who decides she is through with dating, but then strikes up a romance with a “dangerous-looking but charming” death-metal band vocalist. A “lively, upbeat” love triangle develops with a third character, a “perfect type” of man who’s got it all goin’ on in terms of looks, skills, personality, and family background.

Jang Geun-seok just played a pop group vocalist in last year’s hit drama You’re Beautiful. He’ll again play a musician here, albeit a harder-edged rocker than the idol star of the previous series.

This project will be a co-production between Korea’s KBS Media and Japan’s ACC Korea and will be written by In Eun-ah, who wrote the drama phenom Goong and the cotton-candy-sweet Love & Marriage. A director has yet to be confirmed. There are a few stars in contention for the Mary role, though we haven’t been given any hints thus far.

SS501 to take the 3D plunge with recreated Love Ya MV

3D has definitely become the ‘it’ thing to pursue in the modern?millennium, and it looks like SS501 will be following James Cameron and BoA’s footsteps with a multi-dimensional musical revamp of their own.

Images from Jang Geun-seok’s latest photo shoot

Yes — no — er? — no — yes. That was my knee-jerk reaction upon seeing the following shots from Jang Geun-seok‘s new photo shoot, which were released on the 20th.

According to a rep from Jang’s management team, he participated in this shoot because it had been a while since he showed fans a new side to himself, since wrapping his hit drama last year, You’re Beautiful. The new photos were uploaded to his official website, and with his Asian tour now completed, “He plans to greet fans soon with his next project.”

That’s probably a reference to his movie, the remake of Japanese drama You’re My Pet, but one can always hope he’s got his eye on another drama as well.

Oh, Jang Geun-seok and your quirky fashion sense and alternately awful and awesome hair: Never change!

Se7en’s name was chosen due to radish kimchi?

On August 18th,? Se7en made an appearance on the newest episode of MBC Golden Fishery’s Knee-Drop Guru.

During the show, Se7en revealed a story of how his name (Se7en) was chosen.

He explained:

Back then, I realized that using my real name, Choi Dong Wook, as a solo artist was weak. So YG Entertainment’s president Yang Hyun Suk recommended me to use Se7en, but I didn’t quite like it. One day, I went to eat seolleongtang with him, and the dish only came with seven radish kimchis. Yang Hyun Suk then told me, ‘Look at that, even the amount of radish kimchi is seven. Let’s just do Se7en.’ So I just decided to use Se7en.”

ZE:A meets Fahrenheit in Taiwan

The ZE:A boys are currently in the midst of touring Asia and their recent stop after Japan was Taiwan where they had the opportunity to interact with one of the country’s popular boy group, Fahrenheit.

As part of their promotions, the ZE:A had recorded a MTV program on the 11th where they met Fahrenheit for the first time. Then 2 days later, they met up with Fahrenheit again as they collaborated to film a promotional video to promote tourism in Taiwan. The collaboration no doubt boosted their friendship and the ZE:A boys had the opportunity in touring famous sites like the Taipei 101, Xing Tian Temple, etc. It was quite a sight with more than 50 media companies and hordes of fans tagging along.

ZE:A expressed, “The Fahrenheit members were very friendly towards us and we became close soon after. When we were about to leave, they even called to make an appointment with us when they come to Korea next time. They also wanted to come to Kaohsiung to watch us perform but couldn’t because of their schedules. When they do come, we will make sure to invite them to eat Bulgogi.”

G-Dragon’s fans donate over $18,000 to a hospital under his name

G-Dragon’s 23rd birthday seems to be getting wilder every second! We have already seen the mighty Flo Rida congratulate the superstar personally through twitter, but it now seems like it’s the boy’s fans’ turn to join the party.

On behalf of G-Dragon, a group of his fans (aka G-Dragon’s Supporters) gathered to raise over $18,000 for Seoul University Children Hospital. This isn’t actually their first time to support the ones in need under G-Dragon’s name, as they’ve already donated over $10,000 yearly for Catholic Saint Hospital for the past couple years.

Personally, I believe raising money for good cause like this one is much better than to spend them on a pricey newspaper ad. What do you think?

2AM’s Jinwoon doesn’t grow armpit hair?

On August 17th’s episode of SBS’s Strong Heart, 2AM’s maknae Jinwoon revealed a hair problem he has been bothered with.

During the show, he surprisingly revealed, “To be honest, I have no armpit hair.”

He continued, “People my age should start having an amazon, like a forest in Seoul under their armpit, but I don’t have it. When people see my armpit, they ask where I got my epilation from.”

Jinwoon then explained, “When I was in middle school, I started growing this long hair on my elbow. I once plucked it out, then later I separated with my girlfriend who I was dating. When another hair grew on my elbow, I plucked it out again which resulted in me being cut as a member of an artist group. … I then concluded that the hair growing on my elbow was a jinx. Ever since the incident, I did not pluck it but only trimmed it with a scissor.”
