SS501 to take the 3D plunge with recreated Love Ya MV

3D has definitely become the ‘it’ thing to pursue in the modern?millennium, and it looks like SS501 will be following James Cameron and BoA’s footsteps with a multi-dimensional musical revamp of their own.

The pop quintet will be dusting off their May album Destination with a second release of the music video for Love Ya in 3D to make up for the disappointingly short group activities after the release of the album.

For the record,?Missy Elliott released the world’s first 3D music video back in 2008 and Michael Jackson had wrapped up a 3D video project just weeks before his death.?And with recent technology for 3D images without glasses being announced, artists like BoA, Usher, Shakira, Bjork and more are helping the trend gain momentum.

This new music video will give viewers the feeling that SS501 is really standing in front of their eyes, reports promise. With their appealing choreography and expression combined with the new cinematic experience, SS501 will reveal a different kind of charisma.

JOY3D, who is behind the production of this music video, has stated, “The 3D ?technology, which was previously limited to movies and commercial film, is now even influencing the music industry. … The rebirth of music videos in 3D will have a great influence in future trends.”

Images from Jang Geun-seok’s latest photo shoot

Yes — no — er? — no — yes. That was my knee-jerk reaction upon seeing the following shots from Jang Geun-seok‘s new photo shoot, which were released on the 20th.

According to a rep from Jang’s management team, he participated in this shoot because it had been a while since he showed fans a new side to himself, since wrapping his hit drama last year, You’re Beautiful. The new photos were uploaded to his official website, and with his Asian tour now completed, “He plans to greet fans soon with his next project.”

That’s probably a reference to his movie, the remake of Japanese drama You’re My Pet, but one can always hope he’s got his eye on another drama as well.

Oh, Jang Geun-seok and your quirky fashion sense and alternately awful and awesome hair: Never change!

Se7en’s name was chosen due to radish kimchi?

On August 18th,? Se7en made an appearance on the newest episode of MBC Golden Fishery’s Knee-Drop Guru.

During the show, Se7en revealed a story of how his name (Se7en) was chosen.

He explained:

Back then, I realized that using my real name, Choi Dong Wook, as a solo artist was weak. So YG Entertainment’s president Yang Hyun Suk recommended me to use Se7en, but I didn’t quite like it. One day, I went to eat seolleongtang with him, and the dish only came with seven radish kimchis. Yang Hyun Suk then told me, ‘Look at that, even the amount of radish kimchi is seven. Let’s just do Se7en.’ So I just decided to use Se7en.”

Quite a unique way to stumble upon a name, don’t you think?

ZE:A meets Fahrenheit in Taiwan

The ZE:A boys are currently in the midst of touring Asia and their recent stop after Japan was Taiwan where they had the opportunity to interact with one of the country’s popular boy group, Fahrenheit.

As part of their promotions, the ZE:A had recorded a MTV program on the 11th where they met Fahrenheit for the first time. Then 2 days later, they met up with Fahrenheit again as they collaborated to film a promotional video to promote tourism in Taiwan. The collaboration no doubt boosted their friendship and the ZE:A boys had the opportunity in touring famous sites like the Taipei 101, Xing Tian Temple, etc. It was quite a sight with more than 50 media companies and hordes of fans tagging along.

ZE:A expressed, “The Fahrenheit members were very friendly towards us and we became close soon after. When we were about to leave, they even called to make an appointment with us when they come to Korea next time. They also wanted to come to Kaohsiung to watch us perform but couldn’t because of their schedules. When they do come, we will make sure to invite them to eat Bulgogi.”

G-Dragon’s fans donate over $18,000 to a hospital under his name

G-Dragon’s 23rd birthday seems to be getting wilder every second! We have already seen the mighty Flo Rida congratulate the superstar personally through twitter, but it now seems like it’s the boy’s fans’ turn to join the party.

On behalf of G-Dragon, a group of his fans (aka G-Dragon’s Supporters) gathered to raise over $18,000 for Seoul University Children Hospital. This isn’t actually their first time to support the ones in need under G-Dragon’s name, as they’ve already donated over $10,000 yearly for Catholic Saint Hospital for the past couple years.

Personally, I believe raising money for good cause like this one is much better than to spend them on a pricey newspaper ad. What do you think?

2AM’s Jinwoon doesn’t grow armpit hair?

On August 17th’s episode of SBS’s Strong Heart, 2AM’s maknae Jinwoon revealed a hair problem he has been bothered with.

During the show, he surprisingly revealed, “To be honest, I have no armpit hair.”

He continued, “People my age should start having an amazon, like a forest in Seoul under their armpit, but I don’t have it. When people see my armpit, they ask where I got my epilation from.”

MC Kang Ho Dong then replied, “Is it the same for your whole body?” Jinwoon answered, “It’s only my armpit hair. I have a lot of hair on my legs and I can also grow a mustache.”

2PM’s Junho, who also made an appearance, added, “He doesn’t have armpit hair, but he has this weird hair on his elbow.”

Jinwoon then explained, “When I was in middle school, I started growing this long hair on my elbow. I once plucked it out, then later I separated with my girlfriend who I was dating. When another hair grew on my elbow, I plucked it out again which resulted in me being cut as a member of an artist group. … I then concluded that the hair growing on my elbow was a jinx. Ever since the incident, I did not pluck it but only trimmed it with a scissor.”

G-Dragon is on vacation?

Big Bang’s G-Dragon, who looks as if he went on a vacation, was recently spotted near a patbingsoo (Korean shaved ice dessert) store!

Through an online portal thread titled ‘A photo taken by an employee who works at a patbingsoo store’, photos of G-Dragon in vacation mode were revealed. These various photos show him sporting an orange hairdo, and netizens’ eyes have been lingering on his slim yet toned body.

Netizens have commented:

“It looks like G-Dragon was hanging out with his fellow backdancers on the outskirts of Seoul.”

“His body looks nicer than I expected.”

Props to the patbingsoo store’s employee for taking these ’stalker-ish’ photos – but it’s all good since the photos were a great treat for the fans.

2PM’s Chansung can eat 40 servings of meals

On the recent August 17th’s episode of SBS’s Strong Heart, 2PM’s Chansung revealed that he is a beast at eating.

During the show, Chansung confessed, “At one time, I ate 40 servings of shabu shabu (a Japanese dish).”

MC Kang Ho Dong, who is also known for his eating, told the cast members that he could eat that much as well. He commented, “If I don’t pay for the 40 servings of meal, I can eat that much as well.”

2AM’s Jinwoon revealed, “2AM’s Seulong and Changmin, as well as 2PM’s Chansung and Taecyeon are all beasts who eat a lot. For these guys, the total cost of their meal, that should have cost around 8~9 thousand won (approx $8-9) per person, can go up to 1 million won (approx $1000) total.”

Kim Soo-hyun has chocolate abs (?) (!)

Thank you, Kim Soo-hyun, for growing into such a fine young man, and I do mean fine in all possible ways one can mean it.

Now he’s gone and bared his washboard abs for us, as featured in this Vogue Girl photo spread that was shot in New York. The concept of the shoot has him looking a bit rough and tumble, in contrast to his previous roles, and the photos and interview span ten pages in the magazine’s September issue.

The actor has positively shot to fame in the past year, impressing audiences with his mature acting (in contrast to his youthful appearance) in notable child-actor parts (Will It Snow For Christmas, Giant) as well as a solid role in the tearful and heartfelt special short series Father’s House.

(Kim Soo-hyun’s hairstyle seems to be a more modern, edgy way to style the pompadour, from which I think Playful Kiss could take a hint. Perhaps their version suits the character, but this one feels fresher and more stylish.)

Jo Hyun-jae begins comeback activities

We may be losing a bunch of stars to the dreaded army duty, but at least we have some coming back: Jo Hyun-jae has completed his service and is ready to get back to work. He will be holding fanmeetings in Tokyo and Osaka on August 21 and 22, followed by events in Hong Kong and Macau on the 28th and 29th. These will be his first official activities after his release from the army earlier this summer.

Even before Jo’s discharge, he had been receiving requests from his Japanese fans for a fanmeeting, and the event currently has 3,000 people signed up to attend. More requests from his overseas fanbase led to the Hong Kong and Macau dates, as apparently his last drama series, Three Dads, One Mom, was a popular hit there. (Personally, I thought the drama was cute but silly. I think the actors were better than the material and will be interested to see what they pick next.)

Jo has been receiving numerous drama and film offers upon his return to civilian life, but he hasn’t yet decided which will be his comeback vehicle. Now that it looks like he’s ready to dive back into his acting career, perhaps we won’t have long to wait.

Jo enlisted for military service in August 2008 and was discharged on June 19 (pictured below).

Now, what about JAE HEE??

Kangin makes a surprise appearance at Super Show 3

Kangin, who is currently serving the Korean military, has made a surprise appearance on Super Junior’s concert through a video.

On the 15th, Super Junior held their concert, Super Show 3, at Seoul’s Olympic Park. Before their concert, the active members held a press interview and revealed, “Even though Kangin is serving in the military, he will be making a surprise appearance. It has been planned for Kangin to perform Handel’s opera, Rinaldo, with us, but our hearts still ache. We wish he were there instead of just his voice.”

As revealed, Kangin joined the members during their opera performance of Handel’s Rinaldo and performed an orchestra version of Lascia ch’io pianga. Since he couldn’t personally be there for the concert, Kangin made an appearance through a pre-recorded video and made a heartwarming performance which delighted the 10,000 fans who were present.

This Seoul concert marked the official beginning of their Asia tour.

On another note, fellow member Kangin was not the only special guest at this concert. Although he wasn’t there to perform, 2PM’s Nichkhun was at the concert to cheer on his buddies.

Waking up 2PM in the morning

Earlier this week?we reported that 2PM’s new dorm would be revealed through the SBS HahaMong Show.

On August 15th, Haha and MC Mong raided 2PM’s new dorm for the HahaMong Show corner, Mother’s Favor.

The beastly idols were caught off-guard, in their natural habitats. From Chansung and Wooyoung who were found sleeping in the living room, to Nichkhun who looked like a sleeping angel, and the wild Taecyeon, the temporary mothers Haha and MC Mong went around to wake each of the 2PM members and helped them wash up.

In particular, 2PM’s half-awake attempt to dance to their hit songs Again & Again and Heartbeat brought about much laugher.

The HahaMong mothers prepared a special summer camp for the 2PM members who were too busy this summer to have any summer vacation. At the camp site, the HahaMong mothers prepared dinner for 2PM as they shared stories about their families

Cuteness Factor: the key to a girl group’s success?

Korea is currently in its girl idol group phase, but what is the reason for the boom in popularity?

The reasons behind the immense popularity of girl idol groups range from their simple concepts to their catchy songs, from their individual talents to their eye-catching performances. However, there seems to be one more interesting reason behind many female idols’ fame.

Osen recently pointed out that cute members of female groups tend to generate widespread interest and bump up a group’s popularity singlehandedly. Every member has their own individual role in the group, and every group has a member in charge of being the ‘cute’ one. In Korea, fans call this certain member “Kui-yo-mi (귀요미),” meaning “the girl with the cute image (귀여운 이미지를 가진 이).”? This member is in charge of garnering fanboy love with her cute/lovable/girly charm, which will result in a bigger fanbase for the group. In this report, Osen identified four girl group members that fit this role.

The national mascot for the ‘cute member role’ is Wonder Girls‘ Sohee. Even though the Wonder Girls have been promoting internationally for quite a while, this idol in particular still has a strong fanbase as the classic example of a group’s cute member.

Sohee was able to capture the hearts of many males with her chubby cheeks, her big single eyelid eyes and pure skin, which gave her the nickname ‘Mandoo Sohee.’ Due in no small part to Sohee’s popularity, Wonder Girls soared to fame with their hit song Tell Me from their first album, ‘The Wonder Years.’ With Sohee’s cute image and her famous “omona” pose during Tell Me performances, many older males joined the ranks of the Wonder Girls fanbase.

Despite being the second oldest member of 2NE1, Sandara Park has also been branded the cutie of this quartet. With her clear skin and small face, Sandara does not look any older than her fellow younger members. f(x)’s Sulli is also in charge of the cute image in her group, and has received much love for her innocent baby face.

Recently, Miss A’s Suzy has been generating lots of interest from fans and has also been named the cutie of her group. As the maknae, Suzy is in charge of the cute image; however, she’s also got the combination of a cute face and a sexy body, which is a automatic bait for new fanboys. From the pictures of her in school to her internet shopping mall model days, Suzy has generating more attention to herself and her group as a whole. Even Super Junior’s Heechul reportedly confessed that Suzy was his favorite member of the group.

Of course, these are just four cuties that have successfully brought fame to their respective groups. What do you think – are these types of members the keys to success for their groups, or are fans more easily drawn in by other factors?
