Happy Birthday Lee Min Woo!

It's Lee Min Woo's birthday today!!!! BTW Who is Lee Min Woo?

Lee Min Woo (born July 28, 1979) is Korean singer known for his work as a solo artist and as a member of Shinhwa. Lee was the fourth member picked for the group. As part of Shinhwa, he has recorded nine studio albums as a vocalist and a rapper. Though he left the group's management company in early 2007, Lee has stated that he is still part of Shinhwa and that the band will never disband.

Lee first started his solo act in 2003 when Shinhwa was on hiatus. He has since released three successful studio albums. As a solo artist, Lee changed his stage name to M. Aside from singing, Lee has also appeared in Korean television dramas and movies, with and without his bandmates. Throughout his career with Shinhwa, Lee has changed his looks along with his bandmates. From having a cute image in the early days and transitioning to various looks, Lee and his bandmates never lost their strong fanbase.

Biography

Debut with Shinhwa

While dancing for his group, Dicky Ducky, as a student at JunJoo Fine Arts School for the Everland dancing competition, Lee was spotted by some SM Town members and became a part of the much known boy band, Shinhwa. Although he started out as a rapper and a singer, he stopped rapping as Shinhwa continued to release albums. When Shinhwa first came out, the fans (which later name themselves Shinhwa Changjo) quickly chose Lee as the cutest one in the group, with him garnering much attention. However, as time passed time, each of the members began gaining attention, with them having equal popularity as of today. As a skilled dancer, he has choreographed some of Shinhwa's most technically challenging dances. He has released 9 albums (eight full Korean albums and one Japanese album) with Shinhwa and is currently working on their ninth album

2003-2005: Going solo and commercial success

Lee became the first member out of Shinhwa to go solo, debuting in late 2003, during a break from Shinhwa's activities. Choosing the stage name of "M", he joined forces with other "M" companies (such as Korea's music television network M-Net) to heavily promote his first album. The record company depended on Lee to be successful, and he ended up surpassing expectations. His first album, Un-Touch-Able, sold in excess of 100, 000 copies (according to the January 2004 Music Industry Association of Korea chart[1], the last time the album charted).

"Just One Night", the lead single from the album, was very successful, and it also had "M" show a very different side to him. As opposed to Shinhwa's music, which tended to be very dance/R&B-oriented, "Just One Night" was a jazzy slow groove song showing a more sophisticated Lee. In addition, the performances for the various network music shows were very choreographed, showing that Lee was putting a lot of effort into his solo debut. However, the second single from the album, "비야" (Oh Rain), was not. Although the record company released a slightly remixed version of the single, promotion for it was light at best. Soon into 2004, Lee stopped promoting the album altogether and joined his Shinhwa bandmates in preparing for their 7th album, eventually released in August 2004.

After the success of Shinhwa's Brand New, Shinhwa went into another hiatus. During this time, Lee recorded and released a single, "If You...", in March 2005. Sales did not reach album levels, but the single managed to sell over 30 000 copies. Again, Lee heavily promoted the single, with many performances of the song "If You...", complete with special dance intros performances of other songs. As opposed to the sophisticated image from his first album, Lee promoted this single with a "handsome" image, as the song was a light pop song. However, when fellow Shinhwa member Shin Hye Sung released his solo debut, Lee stopped performing in order to avoid competing with him.

By fall of 2005, Lee was ready for his "comeback special" and released his second album, entitled IInd Winds. Initially released in two versions (including a limited "Lineage II" edition), the album's liner notes showed off a sexier Lee Minwoo, as his new muscular body was clearly displayed; there were many pictures of him in partial attire. Lee used the sexier image for his lead single "Bump!!!", which was a club-oriented dance hit. Complete with an intense video and heavily choreographed performances, the song pushed Lee to the top of the various network charts, and his album sold 80 000 copies in the month of September. To capitalize on this success, Good Entertainment (via EMI Korea, their distributor) released yet another version of the album. However, this one had a completely new cover and special bonus tracks; in addition, there was a bonus VCD. This "Girl Friend edition" was released as Lee moved onto his second single, "Girl Friend", a ballad about a lost love. Lee changed his image once again, displaying a rougher, yet sensitive, image. "Girl Friend" was fairly successful as well, allowing Lee to promote his album for over four months, a rarity in Korea's music industry. The album was ultimately a strong seller, placing 12th in MIAK's year-end charts with over 120,000 copies sold.

2006-2008: Expanding solo activities and leaving Good Entertainment

Lee kicked off the year 2006 with a solo concert entitled "M's Girlfriend", promoted as his "first live concert". Held at the Seoul Olympic Gymnasium, he was able to perform two live concerts in early January, in which he performed not only his solo hits, but also songs from other groups (including New Kids on the Block). The concert was released on DVD in the summer.

After promotions, Lee focused on his acting skill, as he filmed his first movie Wontak's Angel, released in summer of 2006. In addition, he rejoined his group members as Shinhwa released their 8th album, also in the summer. Into early fall, Lee continued to promote the album overseas and performing in many Shinhwa concerts around Asia.

Starting in November, Lee began to perform as a solo artist again, including a concert in Shanghai on the 4th.[citation needed] A promotional concert was held at Seoul Melon AX on December 2. Lee also had participated in new singer Sat's first single.

In the beginning of 2007, Lee left his bandmate's label Good Entertainment to create his own, naming it M RISING Entertainment.By creating his own entertainment, Lee concetrated on his solo career more.

Once again Lee's band Shinhwa went on hiatus, thus allowing Lee to once again go solo. He was chosen to perform with American singer Christina Aguilera at her Seoul Concert on June 24, giving Lee high publicity.Aguilera had viewed numerous video clips sent in by various Korean stars, as she wanted to choose only the best. The artists were viewed by their dancing and singing abilities and how well their album sales were.Aguilera then chose Lee as the male to perform with her while singer Ivy was chosen as the female counterpart.

In mid-July 2007, Lee finally release his third album Explore, which was in the R&B/dance vein of his previous albums. He had composeed 9 songs by himself. The album debuted at #3 on the chart. Although he intended to release it in the U.S., with the U.S. via CJ Music and CJ Entertainment's global network,it was release in Korea instead. Because it was release around the same time as another Shinhwa band member, Kim Dong Wan, the two considered themselves in a friendly rivalry (another Shinhwa member, Shin Hye Sung, soon joined in the friendly rivalry with the release of his second album in early August).

Lee's third album sold over 30,000 copies in just three days, with 25,000 being pre-orders.Lee's first single from the album was call Stomp, where it was #1 for two consecutive days on an online chart. His second single, “The M Style” was also quite popular as well, climbing up the charts just as quickly. Though his songs manage to chart well, the album sales were not as strong as its two predecessors, with the album dropping off the Korean Monthly Chart rather quickly. Lee released his first mini-album, The Sentimental Reason in February 2008 to coincide with Valentine's Day and White Day. Giving only a limited 13,000 copies, it sold out in less than a month. The mini-album was successful enough for Lee to promote it with two singles, "Just One More Night" and "Believe In Love."

2009-Present: Comeback

After failing to garner much acclaim with his 2008 "M Rizing" project album, Shinhwa's Lee Minwoo made a come back in June with a mini album, Vol 4.5: MINNOVATION. Minwoo and American producer Outsidaz collaborated to produce the hit track, “Minnovation,” infused with electronica and hip hop beats. In his comeback performances, Lee showed a variety of fresh dance moves and innovative ‘laser beam’ gloves that caught the eyes of many viewers. It is said that he spent a staggering 1.5 million won on the gloves. Lee Minwoo’s mini album garnered pleasant results during the first week of sales and topped the Hanteo sales chart.

Minwoo also has opened a bar.

In January 2010 it was reported that Minwoo was in a serious car accident on Christmas Eve, in which he sustained some serious injuries. He has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

Song Hye-gyo eyes new movie project

Song Hye-gyo is looking at new acting projects, and may have settled on her next role: a film with respected director Lee Jung-hyang, who hasn’t directed a film since her well-regarded The Way Home eight years ago.

According to reports, Song is very close to settling on this project, although for now the casting is not finalized. She has agreed to take the role but is working out her schedule with producers. Apparently Song looked favorably at the project from its early stages and was an admirer of director Lee’s delicate touch, and had waited for the screenplay to be finished.

The project doesn’t have a title yet, but the plot deals with a PD at a broadcast station (Song’s character) who loses her fiance in a hit and run accident. The film follows the conflict and growth she undergoes in the aftermath. Another key role is of a girl in her late teens, whose casting should attract a lot of interest.

If she signs on, this would be her first Korean movie in four years (since 2006′s Hwang Jini), while her last drama was 2008′s The World They Live In. She has, however, taken on a non-Korean film project in the interim, Wong Kar-wai’s The Grand Master, which is still in production. Song is currently in China for filming, but will wrap her shoots shortly.

I like Song Hye-gyo, and I think she’s a better actress than her roles have shown, but I do have reservations about her acting. It sounds like this is a subtle, introspective type of project, and requires an emotional depth that she hasn’t been able to tap into yet. I’ve found that despite a natural screen presence, she has a sort of emotional wall that you hit at a certain point, keeping viewers at a distance. Perhaps director Lee will be able to draw more out of her.

Rain lies about height. Fans ’round the world cry.

Breaking News: It has just been deemed that Rain has probably lied about being at least TWO CENTIMETERS taller than he actually is.

I know. This changes everything.

Rain was captured in the photograph below with Runaway co-star Lee Jung-jin, off the set while in Japan. This has spurred some controversy with netizens who have pointed out that Lee Jung-jin’s profile says he’s 183cm, while Rain has always touted his 185cm height. Clearly, someone’s not so good at math.

Fans who have actually met Rain in person are putting up comments that he’s at least 180cm, while some reports are insisting that it’s the camera angle that’s creating the optical illusion that Lee is taller.

Okay, everyone say it with me now…WTF?

I know that Korean celebrities have all sorts of profile information out there, and that fans feel ownership over such information, but the level of betrayal and counter-support over two centimeters is…just…

Now, if they were talking about a 2cm difference ELSEWHERE…that’d be a different story.

Yesung favors group activities over solo work

True friendship between the members of Super Junior was once again proved on SBS E!TV’s Shin PD Variety Show.

On the opening section,Who Are You GuysSHOW!” the members of Super Junior and MBLAQ investigated each others profile’s and briefed on it near the end.

However, while they were investigating, they found out about Yesung’s solo song for the Cinderella’s Sister OST, It Has To Be You, which he sang live on the show.

After hearing his singing, MC Shin Jung Hwan said to him,

“You’re good at singing. Why are you in Super Junior? Even if you aren’t in the group, I think you’d succeed as a solo artist.”

Yesung replied,

“I personally think that I can too, but I like Super Junior better.”

It must be hard to get along with a group of 13, but I think these boys manage to do it very well all these years.

The bickering romance begins in Playful Kiss

First stills are out of MBC’s new trendy drama Playful Kiss, which recently began shooting with its leads, Kim Hyun-joong and Jung So-min.

Although I think he looks a bit old for her, they do look cute together. Kim plays a cold, supercilious student — THE top student, in fact — at their high school, while Jung So-min looks pretty spot-on as the not-so-smart girl who has a crush on him. (Perhaps it’s because I really enjoy her spoiled princess act in Bad Guy, but I think she looks adorable even as she pouts sulkily.)

The drama’s first shoots took place on July 24 in a neighborhood in Seoul’s Seongbukdong. In this scene, the two characters (Seung-jo and Ha-ni) are bickering on their way to school, having already moved into the same house (her family temporarily moves in with his when her house is wrecked). Seung-jo doesn’t even want to act like they know each other at school and treats her coldly, to which she responds with sullenness.

Playful Kiss premieres on September 1

Idol maids enter BEAST’s dorm for the first time

BEAST’s new reality program Idol Maid aired it’s first episode earlier today.

In this first episode, idol maids Shin Bong Sun and Jeong Ga Eun entered BEAST’s dormitory for the first time. They were shocked to find that the idol group’s apartment was a complete wreck. From the spilled coffee on the floor, to the piles of trash in each room, the members guided their new maids around their dorm to show them the overwhelming amount of work left for them to do.

Towards the end of the show, Shin Bong Sun attempted to win over BEAST’s maknae Dongwoon by giving him a not-for-sale version of Narsha’s new mini album, along with a personalized message from Narsha. Dongwoon was estatic to receive this and became the first to join Bong Sun’s line.

Finnish fan meets Jaejoong in LA

As many of you know, the boys of JYJ / JaeChunSu (Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu) recently traveled to Los Angeles, California to record their new album and it seems Jaejoong met a unique fan.

It’s quite common to see Caucasian and blonde girls in the city of Angels but this one was a bit different because she’s from Finland. The Finnish fan was quite surprised to bump into Jaejoong while on vacation in Los Angeles, but it seems Jaejoong was equally as surprised to know that he has fans all over the world. Check out the fan account below courtesy of Jejungi @ Livejournal:

Now about Jaejoong, I mean more about him now that i have almost calmed down.
So i stayed at Sofitel Hotel in Beverly Hills and there was one nice evening when i was innocently shopping in the mall opposite the hotel. When i came back to the hotel i saw that there was a photoshoot going again. I walked past near there was two older korean guys and one effin’ stylist young man. I just walked past the young man like “uh okay” until i realized that “Ops Jaejoong!!” :??-DDD

At that moment when i realised that it was him i started to hyperventilate, i didn’t know should i start crying or laughing and i was a major fangirl GLAD HE DIDN’T SEE THAT MOMENT!
Then i went back was like “Are you really Jaejoong…..”
and then his translator was really happy and sai “Yes, do you known him?” Poor Jae was totally stiff/frozen, he was like a lost little boy:D <3 and i answered something along like]“Omg, seriously of course i know him” and then i explained that DBSK is cool and “How’s Junsu” and got something said in Korean too.

And it was a topic of wonder that i’m from Finland, the translator guy said that “I think Jaejoong is actually more shocked by the fact that he’s got a fan from Finland than you’re by him right now” … :D
Then i asked is it possible to take a picture with Jae, the old translator guy was like “YESYESYES!” then he took the picture by my camera. I got to stay in Jaejoong’s arms a little longer because the translator was failing with the camera and Jaejoong was giggling cutely at him. :”)

So there was the story, he said that Junsu was fine at that moment and that Jaejoong just talked to him (Junsu) by phone. Jaejoong himself was fairly depressed which is understandable, but he wasn’t arrogant or anything. So dammn cute and genuinely puzzled about the situation :D and actually he was shorter than i imagined, 180cm is not as much as i though. He had effin’ stylist clothes and big head and eyes far from each other and contact lenses :???)
so observations like this. And of course the muscles
yeah right and a packet of cigarettes :?????D♥ I busted you Jaejoong

Thanks to Angelzombie2 for the tip and Chosun for reporting on the story.

G-Dragon is scared of Se7en?

Most V.I.P’s know that G-Dragon is very strict towards his fellow Big Bang members, obviously because he is the leader and wants them to work extremely hard.

But it seems like he took this “attitude” from a past role model and sunbae.

Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment stated, “Big Bang and 2NE1 are very fearful of Se7en. He was strict towards them when they were trainees, and adding to that, he was one of the hottest stars with loads of charisma. I myself, am scared of G-Dragon the most, but the most scariest person to him is Se7en.”

Se7en being the boss was shown to the public in the past on Big Bang’s documentary prior to their debut (you can find it on Youtube).

Se7en had held his comeback party at a club, and expressed his thoughts on why Big Bang and 2NE1 succeeded. He stated, “Each member for both groups fill in their individual parts very well. They have great teamwork, a musical style that is different, and extraordinary fashion sense. As a sunbae, I am very proud.”

He then continued, “A few years ago, I was looking up to everyone, but now there are a lot of people looking up to me. The new building for our company also gives off a fresh feeling. It has everything you need from your trainee days to your singing career. Even in America, there is no company like this. I can totally say that building-wise, YG is the best entertainment company in the world.”

He ended by saying, “YGE has truly evolved compared to the past.”

Ha Ji-won returns to television with Secret Garden

Secret Garden has cast Ha Ji-won to star opposite Jang Hyuk in the “fantasy romantic comedy” drama set to air on SBS later this year. Note that the contract is “not finalized yet” — and we know why that’s a tricky deal — but the production company announced the casting on July 20 as though it were a done deal.

Ha will play a beautiful, skilled stuntwoman named Kil La-im (it is a Korean name despite being rather unusual) who “gets entangled with the immature and prickly Joo-won,” a department store president and chaebol played by Jang Hyuk. Also starring is Yoon Sang-hyun (Queen of Housewives) as a washed-up Hallyu star (haha) named Oscar, with whom Ha Ji-won and Jang Hyuk will fall into a love triangle.

Philip Lee (Story of a Man), and Kim Sarang (Tokyo Showers) are also cast, he as a martial arts director and she as a CF director. The drama has also been the source of speculation as to whether ex-2PM star Jaebum will sign on as a rookie singer named Sun.

This will be Ha’s first drama in nearly four years, ever since she played the famed gisaeng Hwang Jini in the drama of the same name. Since then, her film career has taken off with hits like disaster flick Haeundae and melodrama My Love By My Side. She’s slated for another film this year, the action blockbuster Sector 7.

Secret Garden will replace Life Is Beautiful on weekends and is scheduled to premiere in September. The project comes from the team that did On Air and Lovers In Paris, PD Shin Woo-chul and Kim Eun-sook.

Introducing Teen Top, the newest boy group

If you’re sighing of frustration, expecting to see another typical new K-pop boy group waiting to “blow your mind”, I assure you that this one will not be your average one.
This new group will be named Teen Top, and will be consisted of six members chosen through various open auditions. According to reports, the group has already been approved of their talent through an upcoming program at MTV, titled Vice Guide to Everything. This show has served as a judge to decide on the group’s capabilities in music, and their possibilities of success once they officially enter the field. Vice Guide to Everything also put a spotlight on Korea’s training system on idol groups by actually visiting the country.
T.O.P. Media revealed, “This program, which introduces Teen Top for the first time, will include in-depth evaluation on the training process the boys have gone through, including dancing lessons, vocal lessons, foreign language lessons, mime lessons, and etiquette lessons. Interviews with people in charge of casting, training, producing, and marketing will also be shown in the program.”
According to T.O.P. Media, MTV’s producer Jessie Juke had much interest in Teen Top, that he has decided to visit Korea once again to film the group’s activities once they debut. His initial intentions were to only capture the group’s systematic preparation process in prior to debut.
Vice Guide to Everything will begin its promotions U.S.wide starting this summer, and will be broadcast starting from August at MTV.
